About Us
In November 1985, a group of some 50 enthusiasts met
to discuss the feasibility of a second breed club for Weimaraners in the UK. The popularity of the breed was growing at such a rate that it had become clear that a single body could no longer cater for the needs of so many. At that point, the Weimaraner was the sixth most popular gundog breed in the UK. As a result of that meeting, the Weimaraner Association was formed, and received its formal Kennel Club registration in June 1988.
The Weimaraner Association's aims are:
To encourage, promote and protect the breeding of the Weimaraner to meet the breed standard and to fulfil its role as a hunting, pointing and retrieving gundog.
To help our members achieve these aims, the Weimaraner Association runs a large number of events each year; HPR training classes and courses, seminars on such varied topics as canine behaviour, the working gundog, field trials, judging the show dog, field trial tuition days, assessment tests (the Associations version of working tests where dogs are run as closely under field conditions as possible), garden parties and shows. We have also organised trips abroad to see trials and shows in places such as Germany and Holland.
Members are kept in touch with events, current views and opinions, controversial issues and what the other HPR clubs are doing, through a quarterly newsletter which is full of information - it's also a good read!
We aim to help our members have fun with their dogs, offer guidance and help when needed, and to give members the opportunity to realise the full potential of their dogs.
